I keep old computers as back ups just for replacements for my cnc that needs the old long serial port.(not printer port) Has your machine ever run using the windows 7 or did you get this issue when you changes operating systems? If you changed computers because your old one had an unrelated issue then feeding your machine you may want to try to look on CL or FB for someone selling an old computer with the comport you need and try it.
As a side note there is usb 1.0 drivers for windows 98 but you have to have smaller/old thumb drives to use it. You may need to go back to windows 98 or at the very newest windows 2000.
(DOS system) After year 2000 windows does a software handshake that emulates so i cant ever get anything newer to work. I need to have a hardware handshake via the comport. I think i said something in my last post that you may not be catching that maybe your answer to your issue. The question that's hard to ever answer is what changed. This may not help since you did not change anything but fix a cable but it could be something to look into. Some times When I have tried to make the cnc and the computer handshake before and it gives an error message if I can click fast so the computer hasn't had time to respond yet it will some times open up and run correctly for me.Īlso maybe try lowering the baud rate down on the computer's drip feed program from 9600 to lower. One of the ways we have gotten around it was to use the oldest and slowest machine we can find with the slowest ram etc. When the computer runs to fast we also get a very similar message. (we need a hardware driven comport) We also get a similar issue using a program (different then yours) to drip feed with. We also use a windows 98 machine to drip feed. We have a cnc mill with a Fanuc 6m control. This may not be a good answer for you since you have not changed the computer but have you tried to slow the computer down? Your computer maybe trying to send the program for you to drip feed to fast. If anyone can help I will be very grateful. In comport 1 advanced settings I unchecked the FIFO box. I read a response to “Johnny” by “Gar” that the FIFO needs to be disabled. After correcting the settings I still get the 087 error. The other settings are: Data bits “7”, Parity “even”, and Flow control “xon/xoff”. Also if parameter 1 ends in 1(which it did) then set Stop bit to “2”.
They told me if Fanuc parameter 552 was set to 11 (which it was) then the Bits/sec setting on comport 1 needs to be “9600”. One, of several things I did, was change the settings for Comport 1 to the default settings. A cable came loose, and before I discovered the problem I changed some settings in windows 98. I’ve been sending “out files” for years with no problems. I am getting, on the Fanuc, error message 087 “buffer overflow” when I try to send a file. I have a Komo router controlled by a Fanuc series O-M,a computer with windows 98 program Hyper Terminal to send files to the Fanuc.
